Although he originally backed Carly Fiorina in the 2016 Republican presidential primaries, Woods has since become a loyal devotee of the former president.

On Twitter in 2017, Woods called Trump "a man who is willing to work for free to make his beloved country a better place."

As promised during the campaign, Trump did not take a salary during his time in office. Instead, he donated his presidential salary, which was $400,000 annually, to various federal agencies and initiatives each quarter. However, Trump's financial interests outside his presidential salary did generate revenue during his time in office. Reports indicated that his hotels and resorts, particularly the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C., often hosted diplomats, political events, and others seeking access, which brought scrutiny over potential conflicts of interest and the financial gains his business experienced due to his position. And in 2021, The Washington Post reported that was no record the former president donated his salary in the last six months of his term. He also still gets a presidential pension of more than $220,000 a year.
