"Shenaya, I wanted to apologize for what happened. I was out of line, and I hope you can forgive me." Skylar said but I could see her eyes flickered with deceit, this apology isn't even sincere.
Did Aiden force her to apologize to me? I wondered
I looked at Lucy, whose eyes pleaded for me to give Skylar a chance. I took a deep breath and forced a smile. "Alright, Skylar. I'm willing to listen."
Skylar cleared her throat as an awkward silence crept in the air "I was angry and hurt, and I took it out on you. It wasn't fair, and I'm truly sorry. I hope we can move past this." Skylar said.
Lucy nodded and added, "Shenaya, Skylar has been dealing with a lot. She just needs some time to understand."
I sighed and looked between the two of them. "I appreciate the apology, but this isn't just about us. There's more at stake here, especially with the baby coming."
Skylar nodded, her expression softening. "I understand and that is why I am here to make amends. I want us all to live in peace for the sake of the young Alpha coming."
Just as I started to feel a little bit of hope that things might improve, Skylar stood and walked to the door without saying anything, Just as she opened the door, she turned back with a smirk that sent chills down my spine. "I'm so sorry for the death of your mate, Alfred. I'm sure Aiden had his reasons for doing that."
My heart stopped. "What did you just say?"
She shrugged nonchalantly. "Oh, you didn't know? Alfred's dead. Aiden made sure of that."
The room started to spin around me as Skylar walked out, leaving me in a state of shock. Lucy, looking horrified, reached out to steady me. "Shenaya, I had no idea. I'm so sorry."
I raced out of Aiden's room and headed towards his office. I found him in his office, his face showing concern as I burst in.
"Shenaya, what's wrong?"
Tears streamed down my face as I confronted him.
"Did you do it, Alpha? Did you kill Alfred?"
"Yes, I did." He didn't even flinch. He didn't even show a hint of remorse or guilt.
I trembled in fear as I looked at my Alpha who has been nice to me since the marriage contract. He never shouted at me or made me feel bad with his hurtful words but I had always convinced myself it was only because I was carrying his pup. I could still remember the disgust in his voice when he once called me a lower-ranking werewolf, telling me he'd never have any real interest in me.
How could I forget that?
"How could you?" I whispered, backing away from him. When he reached out to touch me, I slapped his hand away as if he was holding fire. The room felt suffocating, and I couldn't bear to be near him any longer. Without another word, I turned and ran as fast as I could.
Alfred might be an asshole to me, but he was my mate, and I wasn't ready to let him die.
'I would have to kill that asshole by myself' My wolf said to me.
'You just lost your mate' I said back to her.
'He wasn't good for anything' she fired back. Lily isn't even sad about the death of her mate.
Alpha Aiden, who had forced me into this marriage without asking for my opinion, had once again proven he wasn't the mate I wanted. He had once threatened to kill my father if I dared to question his authority.
As I fled the pack house, Skylar's smug face and Aiden's chilling confession played over and over in my mind. He was a monster, and I couldn't stay with him any longer. My tears flowed freely as I vowed to protect my pup and find a way to leave this place for good.
I ran until I could run no more, collapsing under the canopy of trees at the edge of the pack's territory. The forest was silent, a stark contrast to the turmoil inside me. I knew I couldn't stay here. Aiden's kindness had been a facade, a cruel trick to make me believe I could live well as his mate. But now I saw the truth: he was a monster, and I had to escape.
